Big Tex was destroyed by fire last year. The 52-ft iconic host was destroyed in an electrical fire on the final Friday of the 2012 State Fair of Texas. Fair officials confirm that Big Tex will be unveiled on opening day of the 2013 season. Fairgoers want Big Tex back and a fund was established to rebuild him. Big Tex has been around since right after the 2nd world war. The merchants were looking for a big draw for the Christmas season and decided a big cowboy was in order. After all what could be better then Santa in Texas the worlds biggest cowboy? So the Kerens Chamber of Commerce, built a 49 foot one - it was suppose to attract shoppers to spent money during the Christmas season. In 1951, State Fair president R. L. Thornton purchased Santa's components for $750 and hired Dallas artist Jack Bridges to create a giant cowboy out of the material. Remember the Michigan State Fair

A few years ago Michigan lost its state fair and it broke my heart to report that. The first Michigan state fair was held in 1849. This state fair was claimed by Michigan to be the oldest state fair in the USA. The Michigan State Fair Agricultural Society bought the land for it on April 18th, 1905 for one dollar. The land eventually had a coliseum with seating for 5,600 and held two NASCAR races. Funding for the State Fair was cut off by the governor in Oct. 2009. There was no fair in 2010 or 2011. In 2011 Great Lakes Agricultural Fair, a 501 C (3) organization, was created to provide a resurgence and rising of an agricultural event The Great Lakes State Fair took place August 31 through September 3, 2012 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in the Detroit suburb of Novi. There is a interview on this page with Mike Watts is the Fair’s executive director. The 2013 fair won’t be held at the State Fairgrounds in Detroit. Its new home will be the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Take a look at this article Michigan State Fair Returns For Labor Day Weekend 2013, posted March 26th, 2013. The fair also has a new website so you can see what is going on.

Ohio State Fair wins International Award

The Ohio State Fair was recently presented with a first-place Agricultural Award of Excellence from the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) for the fair's new "Agriculture is Cool" interactive education program held in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Farm Bureau, and Ohio's agricultural commodity groups. The 2011 "Agriculture is Cool" program inspired by the initiative of Governor John R. Kasich included several interactive education stations throughout the Ohio State Fair at which students could learn about the many ways Ohio's largest industry – agriculture – impacts many facets of their everyday lives. The program, which also offered scholarships to top participants, was recognized as the best special or specific agricultural education exhibit, event, or program for the fairgoing public for fairs with annual attendance between 500,001 and 1 million. The award was presented during a special awards ceremony held on November 29 during the 121st Annual IAFE Convention. In addition, the Ohio State Fair received eight different awards in the marketing division. Ohio State Fair Virgil Strickler explained, "It has long been a favorite family tradition and an active participant in the international community of fairs and expositions. I'm thrilled that a panel of industry leaders recognized our great state for excellence from a pool of more than 3,000 members from around the world. The "Agriculture is Cool" program will be open to visitors of all ages during the 2012 Ohio State Fair, July 25 - Aug. 5. For the second consecutive year, exiting fourth-grade students (2011-2012 academic year) and a chaperone will be admitted for free upon presentation of a valid report card at the entrance gates. The Ohio Expo Center is a year-round, multi-purpose convention and meeting facility. More than 150 events are held at the Ohio Expo Center annually, including the Ohio State Fair. Harry Vold Stock Contractor, Colorado

Who is Harry Vold? Well, he looks like and sounds like John Wayne, if John Wayne had a brother or a double it would have been Harry Vold. Harry is a rodeo stock contractor with a deep love of horses that shows in everything he does. He is now 86 years old and runs the Harry Vold Rodeo Company out of Pueblo Colorado. He is 86 now and still loves to ride on his ranch and watch his animals. "A good bucking horse has to have the heart and disposition, they have to want to buck", says Harry. His youngest daughter Kristen is now managing the ranch, but, not of course without Harry's input. Harry's animals are never bucked more then twice a week and have the best diet and the best of care and a great ranch to roam on. The following interview was done as the Colorado State Fair was getting underway. Harry and his rodeo company were of course in attendance. Florida State Fair Adopts a new Slogan

[NEWS RELEASE] TAMPA, FL. — August 11, 2010. The Florida State Fair's new slogan is 'THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR'. The use of a changing theme from year to year will be eliminated in favor of adopting a slogan that represents the Florida State Fair brand throughout all elements of its marketing campaign. Florida State Fair: Rediscovering the Essence of Fun and Tradition: "It became apparent to us after some initial research that we needed to implement a consistent and cohesive brand identity for the Florida State Fair," said Rip Stalvey, Director of Marketing for the Fair Authority. He added that, "Some of the most recognizable brands in the world do not change their logo or slogan every year, otherwise customers would not be able to remember them as easily. By branding this new slogan consistently year after year, we will position the Fair in the minds of our customers as a once-a-year, MUST-SEE event, that should not be missed. They will also come to remember fondly that experience and want to come back every year." The Florida State Fair plans to get back to basics by emphasizing the things people know and love about the annual event. According to a 2010 on-site survey, fair visitors indicated that they were influenced to attend the Florida State Fair by these factors: 1. Food 2. Entertainment 3. Livestock 4. Cracker Country -- a rural Florida Living History Museum 5. Rides The Florida State Fair's marketing campaign will engage people with fun and creative promotions to emphasize these core elements. The marketing campaign will kick start in December with the announcement of its entertainment line-up and early discount ticket sales available for purchase online and at the Fair's Box Office.
